The plan was initiated to provide a framework for ongoing development of a people oriented public domain that reflected the area’s evolution from commercial centre to mixed use community.
The plan provided a public domain structure in which Atchison Street becomes a High Street supporting vibrant pedestrian movement and street life both during the day and at night and weekends. A central hill top square was developed through a shared zone to Mitchell Street South with several north south “green street” corridors implemented to Mitchell Street north and Oxley Street.
The masterplan was supported by a costed and prioritised action plan.
EP has subsequently managed a multidisciplinary team to document stage one of the project. For more information, please see Mitchell Street Square
